The Aosta-Valley is located in the north-west of Italy and it is a region which is rich in traditions and culture and which is characterised by many alpine valleys. One of them is the Gressoney-Valley that winds its way up to the foot of Monte Rosa, one of the most impressive massifs in the Alps. At its upper end you find Gressoney La Trinité whose history presents particular features that surely increase the differences between this village and its neighbourhood. While the remainder of the Aosta-Valley is marked by the bilingualism Italian-French, that is due to historical and geographic reasons, Gressoney's inhabitants also speak a Germanic dialect which the Walsers took with them when they left Valais and settled down with their livestock on Monte Rosa's southern slopes in the 13th century. This community, that once lived principally by mountain agriculture, cattle breeding and trade, became a charming holiday resort and nowadays it belongs to the most popular destinations of a great number of tourists.
